I.S.O.L.A., acronym of Islanding Systems Operation into Lonely Areas is a system devised by IVPC for the production of electrical energy from renewable sources in areas where no distribution network was developed (SEE THE VIDEO). The off-grid stationary application of I.S.O.L.A. is able to generate electricity using the natural energy resources found in the area and manage power flows feeding the user/s either instantly or accumulating the energy produced during a time mismatch. The main component of the system is in fact a regulator of energy flows that decides, based on the system requirements and on the logics that are meant to be achieved, where to obtain the energy and where to direct it. The system I.S.O.L.A. is characterized by high design flexibility thanks to the modular scheme of its components. Such a feature - that is undoubtedly one of its major strengths on the market - allows the user to both select the energy sources and appropriately size the performance to meet a wide range of possible applications. Wind, solar, hydroelectric and biomass can be used as sources of renewable energy, and further - not yet standardized – applications cannot be excluded. In any case, it is possible to exploit one or more available resources even in a combined way. The accumulation system is dimensioned according to the user’s needs, so that it is possible to get different operating autonomy scales of various sizes of power. In its standard configuration, the system guarantees the delivery of nominal 72 kW for 12h, with voltage and frequency of 400V and 50 Hz respectively. Based on the user’s needs, the system is scalable up to home sizes from 6 to 10 kW. In addition, for special needs of high requirements, it is possible to size and realize solutions with powers of the order of MW.

Possible applications

The main fields of application of this technological system developed by IVPC are the remote villages not covered by electricity or drinking water supply, small farms, small and medium sized factories, etc. For example, a village of 40 houses not connected to the electricity distribution network can be powered by the system I.S.O.L.A. of 72 kW which will ensure availability of power equal to 1.5 kW per house with a 12 hour autonomy. Even small farms could use the electrical energy thus produced and stored. With an output of 45kW, the night watering for a period of 12 h can certainly be ensured, and the operation of any auxiliary systems, such as, for example, water picking or night lighting can also be ensured using the same output application and the remaining kWs. The system can also be used to power the desalination needed to make sea water drinkable and distribute it in the places not covered by the integrated water services.

Environmental impact

The system, in its standard configuration, allows to reduce CO2 emissions in the atmosphere up to 200 tonnes a year. The accumulation system can be constituted either of lead-acid batteries or of lithium batteries, kept in watertight containers made of anticorrosive material. Both systems, just like the photovoltaic panels, imply no risk of direct pollution during their use and the technology for the end of life treatment and disposal of these items is already available and with low environmental impact.

ESCOs – Energy Service Company –are companies carrying out actions taken to improve energy efficiency, taking on part of the risk and relieving customers from the investment and organizational costs. The resulting cost savings are shared between the ESCOs and the customer in accordance with different types of contractual arrangements.

IVPC 4.0, certified ESCO in accordance with UNI CEI 11352, aims to promote and implement energy efficiency measures, distributed generation and use of renewable energy in order to reduce energy consumption and pollution in the atmosphere, thus contributing to European environmental targets. Using energy in a more rational and efficient manner means to reduce the cost of utility bills, to reduce our dependency on oil and gas supplies and to help protect the environment and to make use of a technology that uses less energy to perform the same function. For some years now, energy efficiency is a priority item in the agenda of national and EU policies: Legislative Decree no. 102/2014, which implements the European Directive 2012/27 / EU, establishes the obligation to increase energy efficiency through the diagnosis for large companies (> 250 employees and > 50 million in annual revenue) and energy-intensive companies (2.4 GWh of annual consumption or Energy Cost / revenue ratio > 3%).

  • AUDIT AND DIAGNOSIS. The first step to reach a suitable energy efficiency program consists in performing an accurate audit or a certified assessment able to determine in an accurate and documented way the system structure, the property and / or industrial unit consumption, to measure their performance. The audit must also be able to monitor the higher waste points, the energy losses, the areas of greatest consumption.
  • FEASIBILITY STUDY / CONSULTING / EXECUTIVE PROJECT. The second step is the identification of energy efficiency measures to be implemented and the possible redevelopment of the existing technology and the choice, in consultation with the customer, of the best applicable solution.
  • INSTALLATION / OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF FACILITIES. We can fully manage the interventions to improve efficiency both in financial terms and tax benefits and from the technical and design profile. In this case, all the stages of construction, management and maintenance of the installations are operated by IVPC own technical personnel, professionally developed and highly specialized.

The operation and maintenance services are carried out through a monitoring and coordination center. Through SCADA systems, it carries out the remote surveillance and acquires data in real time 24/7, 365 days a year. The company can boast highly qualified and certified staff which allows the achievement of operating performance such as “availability”, whose values are above the competitors’ standards (1135 MW managed in the last seven years – IVPC Group  standard: 97.6% - 98.3% - competitors’ standards: 97%).

Blade Repairing

A blade is a set of structural elements bonded together by gluing: a coupling flange, a spar and two shells (overwind and under wind) which confer the aerodynamic shape required for the functioning of the turbine.

VPC Service inspections allow the identification of the type of constructions as well as the categorization and damage assessment due to:

All repairs are carried out at height thanks to the aid of aerial platforms, with the aim of restoring the performance of the blade and maintaining its integrity with methods and techniques deriving from many years of experience and continuous training.

The repair activities carried out include the restore of shell surfaces and the restore of the head of the blade, the restore of the leading edge of the blade and of the lightning strikes system as well as the Top Coat reconstruction. In the event that the repair requires disassembly of the blade and the transport to a warehouse, IVPC Service can take care of all the preparatory activities avoiding delays and independently arranging the entire process.

HV/MV Systems O&M and troubleshooting for cable ducts

IVPC Service manages the ordinary and extraordinary maintenance for HV/MV substation and MV/LV cabins for renewable energy plants, including tests for equipment parameters, thermographic surveys and inspections for overload protection relays. Furthermore, it offers services for trouble shooting, insulation testing and LV/MV cable testing using cutting-edge technology for the localization of underground cables faults and insulation tests according to the CEI 11-17 rule, such as:

Anemometry and anemology

The process of ascertaining the average wind resource of a site is the essential requisite in order to determine technical and economic parameters of a wind project.  This assessment is carried out through anemometric and anemological analysis.

Over the last 20 years, IVPC Service has developed a corporate policy based on the acquisition of cutting-edge technology, know-how and equipment required in order to carry out a proper and careful anemometrical study.  Good anemological characterization depends above all on a good anemometrical study which, through the orographical analysis, ascertains the location of the anemometric devices and once installed the anemometric towers keeps their reliability and functionality.  Thanks to the experience acquired, IVPC Service is able to install anemometric towers whose hub heights range from 10 to 80 m., carry out towers and devices maintenance for the whole period of the measurement study (sometimes it takes several years), collect the anemometric data both on-site and by GSM grid (remote control).

The choice and processing of data collected during the anemometrical study, the subsequent wind simulations, as well as the correlation with long-term wind databases, allow extracting the wind speed and directions expected at hub’s height for each turbine of the wind farm.  Once identified the performances provided for by the turbines’ manufacturer, it is possible to determine the output for each wind turbines.  IVPC Service is able to offer all technical services useful in order to complete the development phase, among these:

  • Anemometric Analysis

Energy trading services and promotion mechanisms

The intermediation activities relative to electricity sales and Green Certificates are carried out by a specific structure based in Rome which operates in the electricity trading sector with the aim of maximizing the objectives of the companies owning production plants, by looking after and carrying out all the connected operations and activities (management of contracts, analysis and checking of data, monitoring the Stock Exchanges, checking integrated commercial proposals, etc.).

In a year, the trading office manages, as a general rule, the trading of 750 GWh of electricity and about 750,000 Green Certificates. As regards the Green Certificates for the period 2005-2015, they had a selling price higher than the average stock value (+3,5%). The trading office of IVPC Group, thanks to the experience acquired, is considered a point of reference for all the operators of the sector who wish to out-source extremely articulated activities. It acts as interface in relations with the Institutions and Bodies of the electricity sector, such as the Transmission Grid Operator and the Regulatory Authority for Electricity and Gas.

Metering and Plants’ Management

IVPC Group is able to offer metering services, thanks to the experience acquired (about 10% of the total wind energy installed over Italian territory).
The metering department acquires data several times a day (quarter hour metering) from the meters placed on the area, elaborates about a thousand power curves, monthly gives to the involved departments output data as per invoicing or incentive criterion.

IVPC Service enhanced its experience in the training field and it provides, as a Certified Training Provider, the modules established under the GWO Global Wind Organisation standards.

Standard Global Wind Organisation

Made of a set of leading companies in the wind energy market, which brings together privates, turbine and utilities manufacturers, GWO is a non-profit organization that aims to create a safe working environment free of accidents through the identification of joint training standards about safety and emergency procedures. The international certification issued by GWO gives the opportunity to train and educate the workers belonging to the field of wind energy in compliance with the highest industry standards for safety.

BST Basic Safety Training

GWO created a Standard Package for Basic BST Technical Training designed to give attendees the knowledge of risks, in order to encourage them to adopt an appropriate behavior during all phases, and to learn the techniques to perform their tasks properly, through the appropriate use of the Personal Protection Equipment, emergency equipment and evacuation procedures.


GWO standard stands out because all the contents of the planned training modules are specifically formulated for the wind industry, and are therefore perfectly tailored to the needs and issues related to our industrial concern.


The members of Global Wind Organisation acknowledge that the training provided and received in accordance with this standard covers the requirements for the BST (Basic Safety Training) for technicians and personnel working on the turbines.

As regards the development of new wind projects, IVPC Group was a pioneer in Italy having planned, constructed and commissioned approximately 1200 MW over the last 20 years. The company has installed up to 700 anemometers, 100 of which still operating.

With regard to the searching out of financial resources, IVPC is considered a leader player in the obtainment of bank loans in the nature of project financing. In the years 2006/2009 alone, IVPC Group negotiated and undersigned bank loan agreements in project financing which amount to approximately Euro 859 millions. Maintenance of photovoltaic power plants

Furthermore, IVPC Group looks after the ordinary and extraordinary maintenance for photovoltaic plants. The optimization of the operating performance and the projected useful life of the plants require periodical maintenance in order to improve the efficiency of the equipment (solar panels, inverters, transformers and electromechanical equipment).

The main activities for the ordinary maintenance of PV plants essentially include cleaning, surveillance and control of electrical components and performances. Among these: 

  • Control and clamping of the anchor bolts
  • Control and replacement of clamping components (bolts, clamps, etc.)
  • Control and clamping of all the electrical wiring and junction
  • Control and removal of potential obstacles in the canalization and/or in the inverter cooling system (heat sinks placed in the frontal area: leaves, nests, beehives, etc.)
